Skating attire for competition should relate to the music selected for the skater's program and be appropriate for the age of the skater and the type of competition. Costumes for artistic competitions are sometimes more elaborate than costumes for technical competitions. All beading and other attachments should be secure. Skaters can be disqualified if beads, hairpins, or other items are left on the ice, because they could cause an accident for subsequent skaters.

Skaters should keep a bag packed and ready to go to make practice and competition days less hectic.
Consider keeping the following items in your bag:

• Pants with side zippers
• Two sets of tights - footed and footless
• Extra dress - Competition outfit and a back-up
• Fitted jacket, sweater or sweatshirt
• Extra gloves, tights, socks
• Fleece/knit headband
• Skates - Left & Right!
• Program tapes or CDs (at least 2 copies)
• Extra laces
• Blade guards, Soakers
• Towels for cleaning and drying blades
• Screwdrivers (Phillips and regular), Extra screws
• Extra gloves, tights, socks
• Jump rope
• Safety pins, needle, thread to match outfit
• Pony tail holders / hair twists
• Bobbie pins and clips
• Comb, brush
• Ankle tape
• Kleenex

• Chapstick
• Band-Aids, First aid cream
• Ace bandage
• Ziploc bags (for ice)
• Small change for phone calls or snacks
• Water bottle
• Crash pads/knee pads
• Scissors
• Warm-up music
• Tylenol or Advil (under parent supervision)
